The 2019 Cadillac XT4 brings many firsts to the premier luxury brand. Some features, such as an electronic brake booster, help streamline the driving experience. In the same way as many other new features, the NFC technology helps drivers pair their smartphone to the Cadillac XT4.
NFC, or Near Field Communication, allows drivers to sync their smartphone devices to each other, by placing them in close proximity. Typically, this technology works best when the two devices are approximately 1.6 inches apart. Examples of existing NFC systems include electronic identity documents and keycards.
Per Cadillac Society, Cadillac introduced NFC technology in the XT4 prototypes earlier this year. This technology effectively reduces the amount of steps, time, and effort that are required to pair a smartphone to the vehicle’s infotainment system via Bluetooth®. NFC doesn’t replace Bluetooth®, but allows devices to find one another faster. Users can skip selecting the vehicle from their phone and vice versa, thanks to the new technology.
How Cadillac will set up the pairing process is yet to be seen. It’s likely that drivers will need to move their smartphone device towards the NFC logo, then choosing to pair the device to the Cadillac user infotainment system.
Since all Cadillac XT4 models come with an advanced infotainment system, all trim levels will feature NFC technology. Streamlining the pairing process is just another way Cadillac is making driving easier.
