Every year, in-vehicle technology and safety become more advanced and can give us a glimpse into the future. One of the newest technologies from Cadillac is vehicle-to-vehicle, or V2V technology. It makes its debut in the 2018 Cadillac CTS,
This technology takes active safety to the next level by almost predicting problems before they even happen. It uses Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) and global positioning sensors to send thousands of messages per second to other vehicles, within 300 meters, equipped with this technology. These messages include vital information about road and traffic conditions.
Cars can essentially warn each other about what is coming next. For example, if one car hits a slick spot that causes wheel slippage, it can relay a message to the surrounding vehicles to prepare. Or, if a vehicle is involved in an accident, it can warn the other cars and the driver may choose to take an alternate route.
While this technology is currently only available in the CTS, Cadillac plans to gradually roll it out across its lineup. Plus, other manufacturers are working on similar technology that would work with Cadillac’s V2Vtechnology, making the roads safer for everyone.
